History
The news television channel was founded by media mogul Rupert Murdoch in 1996. He appointed Roger Ailes as the permanent CEO of the news channel. He wanted to create this news network in order to directly compete with other channels like CBS, NBC, and ABC. Murdoch was able to get Ailes to start Fox News, after Ailes had left America's Talking, also known as MSNBC. After much preparation, FNC was first aired on October 7th, 1996 to about 17 million household viewers. Some of their major topics covered were Fox on Crime and Fox on Politics. Fox News was also very focused on visual presentation, which would help to catch the eye of the viewers and help them to understand what was going on, even if they could not hear the broadcaster. Fox News also created a "Fox News Alert" which interrupts the current channel to update the viewer about breaking news or alerts. The news channel was able to get their station broadcasted over many channels by paying systems up to $11 per subscriber to distribute the channel. By doing all of these things, they are gotten themselves to where they are today, and are still making Fox News a channel that many people can rely on.
