11/13/2017 Army lifts ban on cutters, mentally ill and drug abusers to meet recruiting goalsRead NowArmy lifts ban on cutters, mentally ill and drug abusers to meet recruiting goals The army has always had very strict requirements about who could and could not serve for our country. This requirements could be physical, emotional, social, intellectual, and so many more other categories. Recently, however, the army has lifted some of these requirements in order to make sure enough people are enlisted into our army. What was lifted was the ban on allowing people with previous mental illness, self-mutilation, and drug abuse serve in the army. These people could cause a threat to themselves and to many others around them. People with these previous behaviors might be led to suicidal behavior and suicidal thoughts. The army is also accepting members who did poorly on their aptitude tests.
There could cause many problems for the country and the army because these people could be a major potential threat. There are many previous cases in which these people have had mental breakdowns and caused a lot of harm and damage to many people. We need to make sure we have skilled and reliable soldiers fighting for our country and protecting us, rather than soldiers that might hurt us if we are not careful. While we do need more enlisters into the army, this is not the way to go. By changing the requirements to get in, we are lowering our standards and potentially creating more harm and threat than we meant to. We should find alternative ways to get more members into the army, and think of all of the positives and negatives before we start making shortcuts and allowing pretty much anyone to fight for our freedom and safety.
